Francisco Liriano ready to pitch for Pittsburgh Pirates – MLB Update
Francisco Liriano has recently joined the Pittsburgh Pirates after spending a good season with the Chicago White Sox. He played well in the White Sox and showed his true commitment.
Though he showed good numbers but still could not get extension on his existing contract with the Chicago White Sox. Later he signed with another leading Major League franchise and hoped for a better beginning.
He signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates who gave him a two year deal but now it all depends upon Francisco Liriano that how he carries his game forward.
Francisco Liriano pitched well in the last season and achieved consistent stats of 5.34 ERA along with 6-12 win-loss, 167 strikeouts and 1.47 WHIP. On the other hand, his career numbers of 4.40 ERA along with 53-54 win-loss, 846 strikeouts and 1.35 WHIP
also makes him a good role player in the league.
In the meanwhile, the Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle is working hard to go into a new season with better set of players. He recently spoke to some media personals and explained in detail about several other aspects which could affect on their productivity.
“We've got big arms, with swing-and-miss stuff, others we've used in leverage situations, So I think we have the right guys available to us," Hurdle said.
He added, "Everybody thinks you've got to have a guy who has done it, You'd like to have somebody in waiting, but sometimes you don't know who a guy is going to be. There's a bunch of guys that never did it until they got their first opportunity. So for
me, it's about the opportunity, not so much about having a bona fide go-to guy.”
Some say that Hurdle wants some more pitchers in the roster who will provide the team better offence. Currently the Pirates have some good starters including A.J. Burnett and Jeff Karstens.
Burnett showed good commitment last season and achieved good numbers of 3.51 ERA along with 16-10 win-loss, 180 strikeouts and 1.24 WHIP. He also carries good career stats of 4.05 ERA along with 137-121 win-loss, 1971 strikeouts and 1.32 WHIP.
