The Bayern Munich star has no regrets about return to old club where he evolved in the youth teams before being kicked out due to bad behaviour and ‘small stature’
Tonight, Bayern Munich travel to the north of France to face Rudi Garcia’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lille-OSC-c39800 in the third game of the UEFA Champions League group stages. The Bavarians are heavy favourites to getting all three points against the struggling Ligue 1 outfit. Furthermore,
the match would present France international, Franck Ribery with an opportunity to peg back a club where he started his youth career.
The winger’s time at LOSC Lille was a forgetful one to say the least. mired with disciplinary problems, the Frenchman was eventually fired by the club for bad behaviour following an alleged fight in school where he broke a girl’s elbow.
However, Ribery to this day, claims that he was released because he was considered too small to shine in professional football. Thirteen years later, Ribery is one of the most recognised footballers in the world and a stalwart for the German Bundesliga giants
for whom he has played to Champions League finals.
Since his ousting, Ribery has been at loggerheads with Lille’s academy director Jean-Michel Vandamme who he claims still harbours feelings of jealousy towards him.
"Regarding my behaviour as well as soccer (at Lille), there was just one problem at school, where we were (messing about) and I (accidentally) broke a girl's elbow," Ribery told a news conference earlier on.
“Even now, when I read some comments by Vandamme, I read many untrue things. I can see he is jealous.”
Vandamme, who is still at the same position with Les Dogues, maintains that Ribery was dismissed solely due to his bad behaviour.
“We dumped him after 250 warnings and 300 reprimands. We could not tolerate his behaviour. He fought a girl at school and broke her arm. It was hard because we were seeing his talent even if we never thought he would have such a career,” said Vandamme while
talking to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 Soir.
However, despite a history with the club, Ribery is glad to see his former club become a major player in the Championnat.
Currently, Bayern Munich are third in Group F with three points from two games after registering a shocking defeat at the hands of BATE Borisov in their recent Champions League outing.
