De Rossi is still to sign an extension to his contract which is due to expire at the end of the 2011/12 season. The influential midfielder is locked in negotiations with the club for the past few months but both parties have not reached at a conclusive agreement as yet.
Almost everyone in Rome wants the Italian international to stay put and Baldini is no different from them. The General Manager believes that the influential midfielder offers a lot to the team not only for his performances on the pitch but also as a person. The former Bari midfielder admitted that a lot of clubs are monitoring the Italian and he is worried by it. The 51-year-old is hoping that De Rossi signs a new contract and stays on with the club for life.
While talking to the reporters, Baldini said: “I will only say that De Rossi, as a man and as a player, is a person we need. Why are there so many difficulties? We are talking about a player, scouted all over the world, with only six months left on his deal. He is an intelligent man, at the top of his career, tempted by many offers. That is the difficulty. He is legitimately evaluating all the options and I hope he won’t decide to leave.”
The midfielder is almost certain to be handed the captaincy armband at the club next year. The 28-year-old has attracted huge interest from English giants, Manchester United and Manchester City. However, De Rossi revealed recently that he is elated to hear about the interest from few of the top coaches in the world but he will not leave Roma.
De Rossi has always rejected reports of his departure from the capital club and has insisted that he wants to remain in Rome. Club Sporting Director, Walter Sabatini, revealed a few days back that the club is very close on reaching an agreement with the Italian international. It is expected that De Rossi will put pen on paper after Christmas.
