The former Napoli manager acknowledges the work done by the AS Roma boss, and has heaped praise on the progress made by the Giallorossi under him.
Former Parma manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Colomba, has heaped praise on Luis Enrique for the hard-work that he has done with the Giallorossi this season.
Enrique was appointed as the Giallorossi head-coach by the new ownership before the 2011/12 season. The tactician was handed the role of implementing a Barcelona style philosophy at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome.
Speaking to Radio IES, the former Parma boss spoke of his admiration for the former Barcelona B coach, commenting:
“I have respect for people who try to innovate in football. Even though I think Nils Liedholm left an imprint in this way, since he took great care of ball possession and fast counter-attacks.”
Nils Liedholm had four coaching stints with the Giallorossi, last of which being in 1997. The former A.C Milan midfielder believed in defying the norms and finding new methods of imposing authority on the opposition.
Colomba believes the current http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 boss has been successful in adapting a style that is similar to the Barcelona method of playing football.
“Under Luis Enrique, there is a great frenzy to win the ball back, as indeed there is at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, so he is to be respected. [Introducing new ideas] is usually difficult, but much depends on the players you have. There is also
the need to support the Coach in difficult times, as Roma have done.” He concluded.
AS Roma’s highlight of the season was their annihilation of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan last weekend, as they trounced them 4-0.
While reflecting on his own dismissal as Parma boss, Colomba had no hard feelings for the Gialloblu. However, the Italian believes that managers should be given adequate amount of time to adjust to the new surroundings.
The 51-year-old replaced Pasquale Marino as Parma boss in April 2011, and was sacked after their 5-0 defeat at the hands of Inter Milan recently. Colomba has previously managed Bologna and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003, too.
