The newly recruited Werder Bremen defender has showered praise on his manager for allowing him to play his natural game on his Bundesliga debut.
The BSC Young Boys defender has shown gratitude to his new manager for allowing him to be his natural self in his first Bundesliga game for Werder Bremen.
Affolter recently signed a six-month loan deal with the River Islanders and made his debut against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, January 28, at the Weserstadion.
The defender lasted the entire 90 minutes on the pitch, and was able to impress his manager during his first outing. He stated that it wasn’t difficult for him to adjust under German conditions mainly because he was given a free
hand by his manager. The player admitted that he had no major worries going into his first game as he can cope with the pressure at the highest stage.
When asked whether he was briefed by his manager before the game, Affolter mentioned that Schaaf urged him to be his natural self. He insisted that his new manager gave him confidence which is what an individual requires especially
on the debut.
While talking to the official Bundesliga website, the 20-year-old further added:
“He told me I shouldn't be nervous, that I should focus on my own ability, play football and that would stand me in good stead. It's only another game of football, just like any other I've played in.”
The Swiss international stated that the whole team paid him a great welcome which was encouraging and made it easier for him to settle down amongst his new teammates.
“He talked about the most important things: good organization and staying compact. There are certain principles in football that are the same everywhere. When you know that, it's easier to adapt to new systems. The team welcomed
me really well, which made it easier for me to integrate into the side,” He concluded.
The River Islanders are currently fifth in the Bundesliga with 31 points from 19 games, and their next test will be against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 on Sunday, February 5.
