Hamburg SV Sporting Director Frank Arnesen has admitted that it could be difficult for the club to qualify for Europe after the dismal start to the season. He claimed that the recent performances have been brilliant and the displays
have considerably improved since Thorsten Fink has arrived as the manager. However, he insisted that a mid-table finish would be great this season.
Hamburg have started the season poorly and are currently in 16th place on the Bundesliga standings table with nine points from the 11 games played so far. They have lost a staggering six times in the current campaign
and have a goal difference of -10.
Arnesen expressed his delight on the club’s recent form and claimed that the team is climbing the table from the bottom and have reached 16th place. He insisted that it would be unrealistic to consider a top six finish
in the league this season as the start was very poor but remained confident that the position would definitely be better than the current one.
“We are moving up the table by one position each week and if it goes on like this, then maybe we even win the league in May. We said from the beginning that we have got to be realistic this season and finishing sixth or qualifying
for Europe would be very difficult,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Chelsea’s former Director of Sport added that it would be realistic to think about a mid-table finish from here on as the team’s graph is on its way up. He stressed on the importance of continuous improvement and urged the players
to show more determination and composure.
“If we finish 10th or 11th, then I would take that, but the important thing is that the team improves,” he concluded the interview.
Hamburg SV will next face Robin Dutt’s Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Saturday. The clash is followed by a home fixture against Hoffenheim and a difficult away clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 which could turn out to be crucial in
