Frank Bruno backs Audley Harrison
Former world champion Frank Bruno has today thrown his support behind challenger Audley Harrison ahead of his WBA championship clash with David Haye.
Harrison has been widely derided by fans and experts alike with the markets rating him as a massive outsider. Yet he still has a puncher’s chance, something that Bruno relied a lot upon during his own career.
Bruno said of his fellow slugger to Sky Sports News; "I like David Haye and I like his style.
"I don't like the way he has been rabbiting on about certain things though - but then I am not his manager, I am not his Dad, I am not his guru. This is only my opinion on the way he is jumping around and saying certain things. I would like him to cool it down a little bit because it gives fighting a bad name. But he is a good fighter.”
Bruno went on to say that he feels that Harrison is an underestimated fighter and that he is more suited to the heavyweight echelons than Haye.
"Audley Harrison, well you have got to look at the credibility of the guy, some people underestimate him. He is a southpaw and a natural heavyweight and he can connect with that left hand. I am swaying towards Audley Harrison but I hope the best man wins.”
In many ways Bruno was a very similar fighter to Harrison, a beast of a man with a powerful punch but a questionable chin. Like Harrison, Bruno was more reserved rather than a trash talker like Haye and like “A-force” he was largely derided by the press.
However Bruno was quick to state that he holds no particular alliance to either fighter stating; "I have nothing against either of them, they are both good boxers and we are all brothers and eat at the same table, but I fancy Audley Harrison. Not as a boyfriend or a girlfriend but I fancy him for the fight."
