Frank Dancevic defeats Bradley Klahn to move into main draw – US Open 2011
The US Open 2011 qualifying round finished off on Friday, 26th August 2011, with Bradley Klahn playing Frank Dancevic at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, NY, USA.
Playing the final match of the qualifying round, the two walked onto the hard court at the Billie Jean Tennis Center with a handful of spectators. Opening up against each other for the first time, Klahn had a less chance to win as his challenger ranked higher than him. Also the Canadian challenger was well experienced than the home boy.
Aged 21, Klahn started off in the late 2007 as a professional hard court player, however, has failed to reach anywhere near to a title win. Making it most till round 2 of Vancouver Challenger, Klahn is considered as an exceptional up comer, however, has got a lot to learn.
Challenging the American 21-year-old, Dancevic started off way back in 2002 as a clay court player. Later he tested his abilities on hard and grass courts as well. The 26-year-old has been consistent with his ranking throughout his career. Dancevic has his best stats in 2003 on clay with a 20 to 11 win loss figure.
The Canadian world No. 183 out played the American in the final qualifier in less than 85 minutes to walk off into the main draws of the U.S Open 2011.
Starting off with serving first for set 1, Klahn took away game 1 before he broke the Canadian securing a 2-0 lead after game 2. Increasing his lead to 3-0, the 21-year-old maintained the 3 games gap till the end to finish off 6-3 and lead 1-0 in the match.
Thirty minutes into the match, the second set started off with Dancevic serving first this time. Winning game won, the 26-year-old broke Klahn in the second to lead 2-0. Extending his lead to 3-0, Dancevic overpowered the American again in game 6 breaking Klahn and leading to a 6-1 win in set 2.
Dancevic took just 19 minutes to finish off with second set and move on to the decider.
Klahn then served for the 1st game of the decider set. The two started off with levelling up at 1-1 and then on 2-2 before the world No.183 struck. Breaking the 21-year-old in game 5, Dancevic extended his lead further on winning game 6 as well, 4-2.
Klahn did cover up the lead to 4-3, however, could not break back. The Canadian pulled off the final strings winning game 8, 5-3, and winning the final game with a breakpoint and took away the set 6-3 and the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Clearing up the final qualifier, Dancevic entered the main draws of the US Open 2011. The 26-year-old will now play the Turkish world no.100, Marsel Ilhan in the first round of the US Open.
