Frank Dancevic eases past Jiri Vesely in opening round fixture – Slovak Open 2011
Monday, 14th of November, continued with Frank Dancevic, ranked world No. 174, playing his opening round match of Slovak Open 2011, Bratislava, Slovakia, against 18-year-old Czech, Jiri Vesely, beating him down in straight
sets, 6-4, bagel, in less than an hour of hard indoor court match to walk on to the second stage of the event.
The disparity in ranking was one big advantage for the Canadian world No.174, as he rushed out the first set and the second with a bagel victory. With the two making their way onto the blue circuit, the two warmed up and followed
with the service toss to start the match.
Initiating the match, Vesely won the toss and started off with serving the first game of the match. Opposing the 18-year-old was the Canadian world No.174, Dancevic. Breaking the young counterpart, the 27-year-old Canadian took
an early lead, 1-0, and followed with his second win of the set, service winner, game two, 2-0.
Vesely finally pulled off a winner, serving out game three, cutting down the lead to 2-1. However, Unable to break back, the 18-year-old fell short another game as his rival bagged another winner to extend his lead to 3-1. Tailing
the Canadian, Vesely could only take over his service games till the end of the set. Dancevic finished off the set winning 6-4 to move onto the second set.
Vesely continued with the second set, serving first. However, this time the lower ranked youngster was blistered away with breakpoints and service winners. Breaking the 18-year-old on his serve, Dancevic served out his service
games to finish off the second set with a remarkable bagel victory.
Statistically, Dancevic had proved to be a stronger opponent as he had a greater first serve percentage, both accuracy and winning points. Another reason for the Czech 18-year-old’s loss was that he could not put forward a strong
defence. Consuming four breakpoints in two sets was one of the reasons Vesely could not capitalize.
Dancevic also took the lead in return points, majorly because of his bagel win in set two. Anyhow, with 35 service winners and 24 returners, the Canadian pulled off the win bagging 59 points in total and walked off to the second
round of the ATP Challenger Tour event.
Making his way into the second round of Slovak Open 2011, the Canadian 27-year-old will now play the winner of the match between Australian, Matthew Ebden, and Michal Przysiezny of Poland, to battle out the quarter-final round
of the ATP Challenger Tour event.
