Frank Dancevic overpowers Jurgen Zopp in quarterfinal – IPP Open 2011
Canadian, world number 156, Frank Dancevic outplayed higher ranked Estonian Jurgen Zopp in the quarterfinal of the IPP Open 2011.
At Tali, Helsinki, Finland the two had taken up the swords on indoor hard courts and after just fifty one minutes the Canadian world number 156 got the best of world number 147 by thrashing him in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3 on Friday the 25th of November 2011.
Commencing with the contest, world number 147 Zopp won the service toss and opened up the match by serving out the first service game. Following the 23-year-old Estonian, Dancevic made his first service attempt and he too rolled down his side of the scoreboard to place himself beside his opposition at 1-1 on the scoreboard.
During the opening round Dancevic smashed four aces and had an excellent defence as he did not furnish a single breakpoint opportunity to his adversary. Moreover, he capitalized on a hundred percent of his breakpoints won and with an ostentatious win of 83 percent in his total service points he clogged the opening round with almost twice as many points as his adversary’s.
Moving onto the fixture, the two players once more bagged a service game each and the score tied at two games each at the end of the fourth game. However, as Zopp’s forehand went wayward and he gifted a game to Dancevic, who then held his serve and took the lead for the first time in the primary round.
Although Zopp tried to cut the lead, he was just not successful in completely mitigating the deficit but he managed to reduce the deficit to 3-4 at the end of the seventh game. Nonetheless, in the following two games, the Canadian world number 156 flabbergasted his opponent with a hold of serve and then by breaking him in the ninth game. In doing so, he clogged the opening round to go one up in the match by restricting his adversary to three games in the set.
The second set of the match was commenced by Dancevic and he held his respective service game and then capitalized on a breakpoint in the second game. With a hold of serve in the third, he managed to squander three successive games and took the mini lead on the scoreboard. It was in the fourth game that Zopp made a return with a hold of serve.
In the following two games the players bagged a service game each on alternate games and the score had shifted to 4-2 at the end of the sixth game. Following, in the next two games the two once more bagged a game each on their alternative serves and the by the end of the eighth game the score had progressed in favour of the Canadian.
As he held his respective serve for the last time, he clogged the second set as well and reserved a spot in the semi final of the event.
