Frank Dancevic rallies out Matthew Ebden in second round fixture – Slovak Open 2011
Frank Dancevic, Canadian world No.174, made another upset in Slovak Open 2011 as he stormed away winning the second round of the event against Australian world No.86, Matthew Ebden, beating his rival with a spectacular comeback
in the second set to win, 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-4 in a long 2 hour 23 minutes Indoor hard court match on Wednesday, 16th of November 2011.
Walking down the blue hard circuit, the two took their places as Ebden served first for the match opener. Serving out the first game of the set, Ebden rolled down his side of the scoreboard to lead the set, 1-0. Following the higher
ranked world No.86, Dancevic served out his opening serve evening up the scores at 1-1.
Winning a game each next, the two once again came up equal at 2-2, however, the game changed with the next game. Breaking the higher ranked 23-year-old Dancevic took out game five, 3-2, and followed with a service winner surprising
the world No.86 with three straight games win to lead the set, 4-2.
However, the higher ranked pulled back right away with a serve-n-break hit, 4-4, and served out game nine to lead 5-4. Dancevic, however, levelled up next, and eventually, the set went into a tiebreaker. The 27-year-old Canadian
fell short of winning the tiebreaker and lost the set, 7-6(4).
Continuing with the second set, the two started off with levelling up at 1-1 and then at 2-2 following with a triple game point winner for each of the two in game five and six, 3-3. Flaring up the battle, the two broke each other
in back-to-back games levelling up again at 4-4.
Levelling up next at 5-5 and then at 6-6, set two also went into a tiebreaker, however, this time the tables turned as Dancevic mustered away winning the tiebreaker with a startling 7-5 win, captivating the set, 7-6(5), to level
the match scores at 1-1.
With the final set on its way, Ebden scored the first game to lead the set, 1-0. However, Dancevic, making a strong comeback in the second set, levelled up in game two of the third set, 1-1, switching the serve. Winning games of
respective serves, the two evened up at 2-2 and then on 3-3 before the lower ranked Canadian made his move.
Surprising the Australian with a double breakpoint win in game seven, Dancevic followed with a service winner, 5-3, turning the match tables. Ebden did follow back winning his fourth win of the set, however, was unable to cut down
the lead. With a final winner, the 27-year-old concluded the set 6-4, winning the match with a remarkable recovery.
Through to the quarter-final stage of the ATP Challenger tour, Canadian now awaits as his rival seat would be filled by the winner of the second round match between Malek Jarizi and Jan Minar.
