Frank Dancevic runs down Jan Minar in quarter-final bout – Slovak Open 2011
Frank Dancevic, Canadian world No.174, outgunned his quarter-final competitor of Slovak Open 2011, Bratislava, Slovakia, Jan Minar, Czech world No.499 beating him down in straight set, 7-5, 6-2 in an hour and 12 minutes of indoor
hard court match on Friday, 18th of November 2011.
Starting off with the fixture, Minar, Czech world No.499 won the service toss and took away the opening game of the match, 1-0. Striking back, Dancevic fired up a triple game point winner to level the scores up, 1-1. The two rallied
down games with an equal opposition to each other levelling up at 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4.
Blazing up the set the next three games went down in breakpoints for the two competitors, however, Dancevic broke two out of the three to lead the set, 6-5, and was up to serve game 12 as well. Concluding the set with a magnificent
triple set point winner, Canadian world No.174 finally finished off the set, 7-5.
Moving on with the second set, Minar took his chance serving the opening game of set two rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0. However, Dancevic levelled up right away, bagging game two, 1-1. Maintaining his domination in the game,
the 27-year-old Canadian broke his lower ranked competitor in game three, 2-1, and served out game four to extend his lead to 3-1.
Carrying on, Minar did cut down the lead, yet was unable to break and level up the scores. Dancevic continued to play surprisingly well as he served out game six and bombarded the Czech with the second break point of the set, game
seven, leading the set, 5-2. With just one more game left to knock out his challenger, Dancevic mustered away with his last service game, game eight, winning the set, 6-2, and the match in straight easy sets.
Statistically, Canadian 27-year-old had won most of his first serve points, 87 percent. Adding to that, Dancevic broke his Czech rival four times giving him an easy win. Anyhow, with 39 service points and 28 returners, world No.174
pocketed 67 points in two sets to walk off to the semis stage of the event.
Making his way into the semi-final round, Dancevic will now play against Slovakian, Lukas Lacko for a spot in the final round of Slovak Open 2011, an ATP Challenger Tour event. Both players have been upsets on tour, beating the
top seeded players; however, Lacko has a better chance of winning the final spot as his impact in the first round, beating top seed, overshadows the Canadian’s persistence.
