Frank Dancevic runs down Stephane Robert in second round – IPP Open 2011 CH
Frank Dancevic, Canadian world No.156, outplayed his second round competitor of IPP Open 2011, Frenchman, Stephane Robert, ranked world No.106 and the eighth seed, pulling him down in straight set, 6-3, 7-5, in exactly an hour
of indoor hard court fixture on Wednesday, 23rd of November 2011 at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
The two played their third head-to-head fixture with Dancevic leading the scores 2-0. Winning the second round of the ATP Challenger tour, Canadian added another victory to his records and now leads three wins to zero. Also, Robert
has not been performing up to his best so far.
Commencing with the fixture, Dancevic won the service toss and led to open up the match serving out the first service game, 1-0. Following the 27-year-old Canadian, Robert made his first service attempt rolling down his side of
the scoreboard to level the scores, 1-1.
Carrying on with the first set, Dancevic served out his second serve, game three, 2-1, before putting forward another spectacular win breaking the eighth seed in game four to lead the set, 3-1. Serving out his third consecutive
win of the set, game five, Canadian pulled through a 4-1 rock solid lead.
Robert pulled back a game, however, was unable to break back to cut the lead any further. On the other hand, left with just two more wins to finish off winning, Dancevic served out two out of the last three games to conclude the
set winning, 6-3, and onto the next.
Moving on to set two, Robert struggled away the second set opener and won his first set serve, 1-0. 27-year-old, however, followed his French rival and evened up the scores in no time, 1-1. Rallying down games, the two served out
respective games to level up again at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and then on 5-5.
Seemingly going towards a tiebreak, the match turned its course as the 27-year-old Canadian broke his higher ranked rival in game eleven of the second set to take the lead 6-5. Serving for the match, Dancevic swirled away with
game twelve to finish off the match winning in straight sets.
Statistically, Dancevic kept his first serve as his main weapon. Bringing down 90 percent of the point from his first serve led him to win 47 service points and 18 on returners totalling 65 point at the end of the match.
Making his way through the second round of the ATP Challenger Tour event, the underdog moves to the quarter-final stage with an empty rival seat at the moment. The winner of the second round fixture between Adrian Mannarino, third
seed, and Jurgen Zopp would go against the Canadian in the quarter-final round.
