Frank Dancevic stuns Bobby Reynolds in the quarters – Tallahassee Tennis Challenger 2012
Canadian rising star, Frank Dancevic, surprised everyone after shocking eighth seeded local star, Bobby Reynolds, with a bagel at the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger 2012 on Thursday. He penned down a 6-0, 7-6(3) score line against the 29-year-old to book
a spot in the final four at this hard court event held in Florida, United States.
The ninth seed barely sweated in the opening set and after overwhelming late resilience posed by Reynolds in their 10th meeting, he powered into the semi-finals at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event. After earning
this 76 minutes success, Dancevic avenged his loss at the qualifying competition of the BNP Paribas Open this circuit.
Dancevic thundered into the Forestmeadows Tennis Complex and drew the first blood in the opening game. He then maintained his intensity and continued splashing powerful groundstrokes to wipe out the following five games in a row, ultimately pulling out the
opener with a bagel. He plucked his entire serves without facing any hindrance and cashed in three out of five break opportunities.
The world number 118 swayed from his path in the start of the second set and after gifting away his serve in the fourth game, he went 1-3 down. However, Dancevic quickly counterattacked by grabbing his break back in the very next game. He then kept his remaining
serves with conviction and took the set to the tie-breaker. The Canadian prevailed in it and quickly took a 5-2 lead before sealing the deal with a 7-6(3) score line.
All in all, the 27-year-old smacked 12 aces and converted four out of six break opportunities to his advantage. He also manifested a better first serve share of 63 per cent in contrast with Reynolds’ 60 per cent and tremendously clicked 30 out of 35 points
on it.
Next challenge for the booming Canadian is the fourth seed, Tatsuma Ito of Japan. The 23-year-old lost his serve once but cashed in half of the eight break chances to take down America’s Wayne Odesnik. He registered a slightly lower first serve share and
superbly clicked 25 out of 30 points on it.
