Frank Francisco dares New York Yankees and calls them 'chickens' but stays quiet after game - MLB
An interesting comment from relief pitcher Frank Francisco suddenly brings him to the spotlight. While New York Mets were tight-lipped largely entering into the series, Francisco broke the ice.
In a challenging attempt to dare Yankees, he termed them ‘chickens’ and expressed his penchant to knock them down. However, as the game concluded, he was humble after delivering the ninth inning splendour and did not try to speak more about it.
Before start of the game, when questions were asked from Francisco about preparations for Subway Series, he looked ferocious in his commitment to avenge the series sweep Yankees had dealt on them earlier.
Mets were demoralised after they were humiliated by Yankees last time. How cheaply they were defeated in three games was nothing short of a nightmare for them.
Whatever attempt they made during the series to bounce back was befittingly put to rest. In-particular, relievers bore the brunt of the Yankees’ onslaught.
Without Francisco, their bullpen was pounded big-time.
In some occasions, while the Mets would be maintaining lead from the start, Yankees, in an apt display of dominance, would fetch victory from their relief pitchers.
Therefore, before start of the series opening game, Mets were conscious of their weak-areas. Francisco, who has been incredible throughout the season, was the best they can put up against them to make sure bullpen will not be hammered again.
Carrying out the responsibility to near perfection, Francisco helped the Mets in their win, in the series opening game.
Restraining nerves under the pressure cooker situation, he did not allow Yankees to have any freebies this time. In-short, one can say, he was the difference which the Mets were missing last time.
With this, he rightly kept with his words, he uttered before start of the game.
“I can’t wait to face those chickens,” Frank Francisco. “I want to strike out the side against them. I’ve done it before.”
Following the victory, anticipations are rife about how the Mets will fare throughout the series. Will they be able to clinch series triumph against Yankees is among the hot topics being discussed.
Provided the Mets can witness their starters putting up solid performances and Francisco becomes a formidable force in the last inning, there is every possibility that they will be able to rout the Yankees.
