Frank Francisco remains confident after two poor outings in the regular season - MLB Update
All that was built so arduously by the New York Mets was about to be shattered in just one inning. In the game against San Francisco Giants which the Mets won in the end, Frank Francisco had left nothing in making the outcome otherwise. However he is confident
in his ability to bounce back soon.
He was sent in the ninth inning with the Mets leading by three runs, however to the grave disappointment of the manager Terry Collins, he gave up three runs and got the score tied, putting the Mets on the brink of defeat.
Immediately reacting to what was going on there, the manager got him off from the mound.
“It was surprising, but he’s the boss,” Francisco said. “He made the right choice, because it worked out.”
It was a wise call by the manager as no score came off afterwards and thus a likely swirl of the game beyond control was avoided. Thanks to a wrong throw by the catcher that one of the Mets’ base-runners was able to complete the winning run in the bottom
of the ninth.
Not fazed by the rough up, Francisco is upbeat to exhibit what he feels he has. The fact Mets do not have the best of the closers in their ranks, he will certainly get the chance in the games ahead.
After the game, Terry Collins did re-iterate his trust in his abilities and stated that he will be walking up to him to know what went wrong and if he can help him any way.
Underlying fear among the fans is a likely benefit Francisco may gain due to the winning streak the Mets are enjoying at the moment amidst scattered focus of the management.
He can easily get away with the kind of attention he may actually be requiring from the staff and therefore as he progresses further in the season, he may come up with even a worse performance.
As the Mets play more games in the season and Francisco experiences same kind of situations for few more times, it will be clear whether the confidence he has expressed in his ability to turn out better was right.
