http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 lead England to 2-0 win over Wales: Euro 2012 qualifiers
England defeated neighbours http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 2-0 in their Euro 2012 qualifying match to regain top spot in Group G. The Three Lions overcame the Welsh on their home turf at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, easing the pressure off under-fire national team manager
Fabio Capello.
Early goals from Frank Lampard and Darren Bent made sure that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 walked away from Cardiff with maximum points, as Wales could find no answer the might of the Three Lions.
The hosts looked out of the contest within the first quarter of the match. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 man coolly fired his side
into the lead.
Any hopes of a comeback were squashed just eight minutes later, when a dangerous cross from Ashley Young was met firmly by Darren Bent just six yards from goal. Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was helpless to stop the ball going into the back of his net,
and England were 2-0 up in under 15 minutes.
The visitors cruised through the remainder of the first half, with their defensive line going largely untested before the break. However, Wales manager Gary Speed rallied his troops during the half time team talk. They looked a completely different side
in the second half, but try as they might, they could not get past the solid England defence.
The few times that the Welsh did manage to get a shot on goal, they were unable to keep their efforts on target. The introduction of David Vaughan and Ched Evans for Wales did nothing to help their cause, and England played out time to record a famous win
at the Millennium Stadium.
The win will go a long way in reducing the pressure on Three Lions manager Fabio Capello. The Italian came under heavy criticism from all quarters for his handling of the England captaincy issue, but now that England are at the top of their group, Capello
can breathe a little easier.
