Chelsea midfielder and vice-captain Frank Lampard has revealed he believes the fact that the Blues have won the UEFA Champions League should not mean the end of the old guard at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard, along with the old-guard, defied the odds when they defeated Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Champions League final. The victory meant that the Blues not only lifted the Champions League trophy but also earned a qualification for
next season’s competition.
It is a widely accepted belief that the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 will be exiting Stamford Bridge, especially after having won the Champions League trophy. Lampard however, claimed that was not to be the case.
He admitted that there were always changes in the team after every season, but he did not think it meant that the successful http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 squad would have to be broken up. Lampard revealed that the current Blue’s team were now even more determined to go forward
and win more trophies next season.
Lampard revealed in an interview:
“We've won the FA Cup and now the Champions League and the determination and spirit we have shown, it's been fantastic.”
The English midfielder’s career at Chelsea was cut short by former manager Andre Villas-Boas, but after he was sacked and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo brought in, Lampard was given a central role once again. Along with the old-guard, the 33-year-old has made history.
He revealed:
“The key players have been there a long time and we want to win, we are determined to win, in the dressing room we have a tough group.
We struggled earlier in the season, confidence was low, but there is a real determination here, and when times are hard, we dig in.”
Having waited to win the Champions League for 11 long years, Lampard revealed he did not consider his side to be lucky. In fact, he believed they had been unlucky in the past, having so close to winning the Champions League but not being able to do so.
Lampard concluded:
“Maybe we've made our own luck. There are other times when we deserved more than we've got.
We dug in and we didn't play beautiful football but we played spirited football that no-one can undermine.”
