http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and England midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted he thought he would lose out his place in the England squad after he found himself on the bench under manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Lampard recently sustained a thigh injury which made his involvement in the European Championships a doubt, but following a scan he has been given the go ahead to participate for the Three Lions. He is expected to be available for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in the friendly
against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 on Saturday.
It has been reported that the European Championships could be the last international tournament for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097, who is 33 years old. However, the midfielder does not believe that to be the case and is confident he can continue to work for his team.
However, he did admit that he expected his participation to decrease in the future since he was one of the senior players. Lampard admitted that with the way things stood, this could potentially be his last chance to represent England in the European competition.
Lampard said in an interview:
“I don't see myself retiring or taking myself out of it in the near future, so I wouldn't want to call it the last one necessarily.
But I'm no fool and I know that age is a factor and, when you're at the top international level, you don't go on forever. Nobody does. I will take this as potentially one of my last chances.”
Under manager Andre Villas-Boas, Lampard did not enjoy regular football, which saw Chelsea suffer. However, once http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo took over as manager, Lampard found himself in the starting line-up once again and he helped see that the season ended with
a FA Cup and UEFA Champions League win.
The midfielder was pleased with the fact that he had been given another chance at Chelsea, which he had made the most of. He revealed:
“Not playing regularly for Chelsea was something I didn't enjoy but I had to get through and with England as well. You can't expect always to be first choice throughout your career. It was looking like it was going in a tough way for me. And it changed.”
