The 33-year-old sustained the injury in only the second day of training and after the scan it was confirmed he would be unable to participate for the Three Lions. Hodgson was told that the tear Lampard had sustained would not heal in time for the group stages of the European Championships, which is why the English manager dropped the Blues midfielder from the squad and instead brought in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102.
The England manager confirmed the news which had come to him as a blow, especially after the news that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 youngster Jordan Henderson.
Hodgson said in an interview:
“It's a huge blow for the team, especially coming after the loss of another senior player in Gareth Barry. The fact that the doctor cannot guarantee Frank could take part in any of the group matches means we have to replace him in the central midfield area.”
Hodgson revealed Lampard’s exclusion was a great disappointment, especially for the midfielder himself. After winning the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in the 2011-2012 season, Lampard was looking to bring success to his country.
However, he will be unable to do so as he has now been dropped from the squad due to his unavailability for the group stages. According to Hodgson, Lampard deserved a great chunk of the praise for helping the Three Lions qualify for the European competition, as he had worked throughout to ensure they made it this time around.
He continued:
“Apart from it being a huge blow to me and the team, I'm especially disappointed for Frank himself.
He has been in very good form and was looking forward to the tournament.
He made a huge contribution towards us qualifying for the Euros so it is cruel to be forced out through injury just before the tournament.”
