He revealed he was extremely touched by the support the fans had shown him, on and off the pitch, something for which he would always be grateful. He admitted that the fans had been a big part of his success and that he would like to thank them for it.
Lampard said while speaking to reporters:
“I just want to play and the way the fans were with me was amazing. It's lump-in-the-throat stuff when they sing your name like that.
When I play and I can play, I know I can contribute but the main importance is Chelsea.
The fans have stuck with us brilliantly. It's been a tough old season. These fans here, I think they've been through and seen a lot back in the old days.
So they're always very keen to stay with their players and I can only thank them for that.”
Meanwhile, speaking on the future, Lampard revealed the club’s form in the English Premier League was of high importance since they were determined to land a place in next seasons UEFA Champions League. The Blues are currently at fifth position on the Premier
League table.
He revealed:
“Our league form is imperative now, because a club like Chelsea has to stay in the top four.”
