The talismanic midfielder of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 Frank Lampard has admitted that the UEFA Champions League is now their priority above the Barclays Premier League.
Frank Lampard admitted the fact that the Blues are no longer in the Premier League title race and winning the Champions League is their new aim.
He said, “I hate putting one above the other but having won three Premier League titles, the Champions League is the one to win.”
Chelsea are the current Barclays Premier League champions. However, the Blues are now in no position to defend their title as they are well behind the League leaders Manchester United and are already ruled out of the title race.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men were favourites to defend their Premier League title thanks to their high flying start. However, Chelsea failed to capitalise on their start and their recent goalless draw against Fulham put them 12 points behind the top spot.
However, on the other hand, the Blues had an impressive European campaign and finished as the group leaders. Chelsea suffered only a single defeat in the UEFA Champions League which came against away at Marseille.
The London giants are drawn against the Danish Champions FC Copenhagen in the knockout stage of the Champions League and are favourites to make it through to the next round.
Moreover, Frank Lampard also concedes that the impressive European form will help the Blues to start performing in the Barclays Premier League.
He added, “It depends on the squad but I think if you're going well in the Champions League it can help your league form. If you're winning in Europe that form can be carried into the league.”
No London club has ever won the UEFA Champions League. Chelsea did manage to qualify for the European final but were defeated by their English rivals Manchester United in a penalty shoot-out.
Chelsea, who are also unbeaten in the FA Cup for the last two seasons, will play their next FA Cup match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 this weekend. The Blues are favourites to make it to the last four or quarterfinal stage of the Cup.
