http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 has admitted that he is in awe of Lionel Messi’s goal scoring figures this season.
With 63 goals for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 already, Messi has lit up the UEFA Champions League as well as the Spanish Primera Division but the season isn’t over yet for the Argentinean.
Chelsea are going into their tie against Barcelona as the underdogs but they have strengths that might surprise the Catalan giants. In 2009, Barcelona needed a late strike by Andre Iniesta and some dodgy refereeing decisions to
sneak past the Blues into the final of the UEFA Champions League. This time around, things are different in both camps. Barcelona are firing on all cylinders and Chelsea are a much changed side from 2009 as they are seen as a team on the decline.
Lampard said, "He was a fantastic player then, at that stage. But what he's doing now, the levels he's taken his game to is something I've never seen before. I grew up with (Diego) Maradona - he was my idol as a player - but I
think Messi has taken it to probably further levels than him, certainly in his club football. To score the 70 goals he'll probably end up with this season, they're crazy figures.”
He added, "He deserves it. He's the best player in the world on merit. He's absolutely unbelievable. I'm pleased to be up there and around that kind of figure. I haven't played as many games as I would have liked to this season.
If I can get to 20, it'll help us because we've got six or seven games to go now and if I could do that, it will obviously help us."
