  1. Chewing gum is repetitive, TV programmes are mostly repetitive, hence the analogy.

  2. He is making a comparison here, a ratio. This is to this as that is to that. Chewing gum is bad for your teeth=TV is bad for your eyes. Very interesting quote.

  3. I saw that too and didn't quite get it I think the answerer above quizard is right.  Though chewing gum is beneficial in someways so I think the quote is kind of weak but I can see what FLW was trying to get at but it doesn't make full sense, logically.

edit. chewing sugar free gum(which most are) is good for your teeth because it produces saliva, which helps with acid erosion.

  4. business

  5. could be  too much TV strains the eyes?

  6. Keeping your eyes busy without actually doing something beneficial as gum is to the mouth it just freshens your breath briefly.

  7. Perhaps these quotes will explain better than I am able:

"Television:  A medium. So called because it's neither rare nor well done."

    ~ Ernie Kovacs

"Imitation is the sincerest form of television."

    ~ Fred Allen

"Don't you wish there were a k**b on the TV to turn up the intelligence? There's one marked 'Brightness,' but it doesn't work."

    ~ Gallagher

  8. im guessing when you chew you just do it, people do it out of boredom and dont realise they are doing it, same for the tv, we often just sit there and let the hours pass watching c**p really

  9. FLW believes that chewing gum is a monotonous habit that accomplishes nothing and so is watching television.

  10. "Seeing" is Believing...!!
