Frank Maloney reckons John McDermott is ready to rumble against David Price – Boxing News
Boxing Promoter, Frank Maloney, has said that John McDermott is a real set up in class for the unbeaten prospect, David Price. He believes that the British Heavyweight Title challenger ‘Big Bad’ has the capability to go all the way and this time he is equivalent
of a title fight for Price.
Both pugilists, John McDermott and David Price, are set to meet in the ring for the British Heavyweight Title eliminator on June 11, at the Olympia, in Liverpool.
However, Maloney has claimed that this time the 30-year-old, McDermott, who is hoping to earn a fourth crack at Lonsdale Belt, will be a tough nut for the Olympic bronze medallist, David Price.
Maloney in an interview said, “It is a real step up in class and anyone who looks at these pictures of McDermott and thinks he’s a fat man are making a horrible mistake. He naturally looks like he is out of shape, but so did Larry Holmes and a few other
great heavyweights. We’ve seen McDermott give Tyson Fury his hardest fight before getting robbed and in his last fight he knocked out an unbeaten heavyweight. He has also taken Danny Williams to two split decisions.”
Though Maloney admitted the fact that McDermott looks out of shape, he said that things are different in actual. He also commented on McDermott’s win over Danny Williams, when he knocked out an un-beaten heavyweight in his last fight.
The 27-year-old, Price, who blasted out tough American, Raphael Butler in over just 100 seconds, responded to Maloney.
He said, “As Frank has said, I’ve knocked people out in the first round before but felt a little sheepish for doing it because I’ve only clipped these fella’s.”
Price, who has ten straight wins since turning pro in March 2009, also triumphed over Butler, which was a big confidence booster for him. In the end, the Englishman said that he must look forward to this fight, as it is sure to be a scintillating battle.
