Frank Mir: I will definitely tap out instead of receiving a broken arm or limb - UFC news
Frank Mir, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion, in a recent short interview shared his thoughts about his last skirmish with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and said that he would prefer to tap and leave the bout if he is sure to
break his limb or any other bone adding that losing a bout would be okay rather than spending the rest of the life limping.
Mir and Nogueira collided on December 10, 2011 and co-headlined the UFC 140 pay-per-view. The bout was an epic show of resilience since Antonio despite being grabbed in the vicious kimura did not tap and eventually broke his arm allowing the referee to intervene
and halt the bout.
Frank collected much praise not only from the crowd but also from UFC President Dana White who dubbed the vicious submission manoeuvre as the ‘submission of the century’. Mir is known as one of the most lethal submission specialists in the whole of UFC.
The 32-year-old has been in a total 21 bouts and came out victorious in 16. The 260-pound American fighter has collected nine of his total wins by submission and has nailed many big names such as Brock Lesnar, Cheick Kongo, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and others.
His last bout with Antonio was the second one, basically a rematch of the first skirmish in which Mir emerged as a victor by making the Brazilian ‘Minotauro’ submit. Mir, while sharing his thoughts on the last submission win said that he was shocked to see
Antonio trying to break his grip adding that there was no sign of distress about the fact that he is losing the bout.
Frank said that Antonio’s face was plain and he was in no mood to tap adding that he was bit astonished as he was continuously adding the pressure and it was evident that the result will obviously be a broken arm but Antonio kept on striving hard to break
the move.
When asked as to what he will do in such a situation, Frank said, “As far as what I would do, I say, that, if it's a limb thing, I definitely would, once I know I feel something starting to pop, I think I would slap out to, tap out and say s***w it. I don't
want to have a broken bone and shred something and alter the way I walk or maybe the way I brush my teeth the rest of my life.”
Mir went on and said that in case of chokes he is a stern guy and almost passes out. Mir remarked, “On chokes, I’ve been known to be a d*** in the gym and pass out and to go very close.” Frank is currently scheduled to take on Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 on
May 26, 2012.
