Frank Mir: I will try to not break Junior Dos Santos arm but if necessary will do so – UFC News
Frank Mir, the former UFC heavyweight champion, in a recent media interaction commented that he does not like the fact that Antonio Nogueira did not tap and preferred to let his arm get broken adding that he will not do so to Junior Dos Santos.
Mir, well known as one of the best and most lethal submission specialist in the whole of UFC, further added that Santos, if is sensible, will tap out but if he does not do so, then he has no other choice but to break his arm as well.
Frank will enter the octagon as a challenger and will take on Junior Dos Santos, the current UFC heavyweight champion, while constituting the headline event of UFC 146. The octagon for the Saturday May 26, 2012 showdown will be set up at MGM Grand Garden
Arena situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
Mir, 33, has been in a total 21 bouts and boasts 16 wins. The American mixed martial art heavyweight brawler has nailed nine of his opponents by submission, three by knockout and another three by decision.
Frank caught media’s eye after his high profiled wins over names such as Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Cheick Kongo and others. Mir has won eight of his last 10 bouts and is on a continuous three-bout win streak.
Santos, on the other hand, has been in a total 15 bouts and has emerged victorious in 14. The Brazilian pounder is a knockout specialist unlike Frank and has nailed 10 of his total opponents by KO, two by submission and another two by decision.
Frank during the press conference stated, “Honestly, I don’t like the fact that Nogueira didn’t tap and got an arm broken. He looked very sharp in that fight. I think it would have made me look better had he tapped and went on and had another two or three
wins.”
When asked as to what he will do if he grabs Santos in his lethal submission grip, Mir simply commented, “If I grab him and he doesn’t tap, it’s going to make me a little upset. I don’t want to have to break his arm, but I want to win the fight.”
The bout will be a tough one and Frank has reached for the second time in his career in a UFC title bout. Mir will not destroy such a golden chance even if it costs Santos his arm.
Both belligerents are top-notch fighters and will give the UFC fans an epic bout to remember. The event will also witness Cain Velasquez take on Antonio Silva in a non-title bout.
