http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Rost-c14103: Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal underestimated New York Red Bulls – MLS News
Major League Soccer franchise, New York Red Bulls, entered the Emirates Stadium as complete underdogs when they locked horns with Arsenal FC on July 31. However, the Barclays Premier League outfit could only manage a 1-1 draw, losing the Emirates Cup to
the visiting Americans.
The Red Bulls had won their previous game, against Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain, 1-0 the day before and topped the table with 4 points.
The Metros goalkeeper Frank Rost was the reason why both PSG and the Gunners failed to extract a win out of the Americans.
“I think yesterday Paris Saint-Germain underestimated us,” Rost said. “Then they thought it is difficult to score against New York. Arsenal had the same problem today. It was a completely different game, but they forgot how to score against us today as well.”
Head coach Hans Backe was pleased to see the new custodian gel with the rest of the team so fast. This was Rost’s fourth match for his new outfit, two of them being MLS fixtures.
The German national had recently left Bundesliga for good to shake hands with the MLS outfit at New Jersey. His performance has been marvellous so far and the manager hopes the new additions will prove worthy of the big money spent.
Although the EPL side bossed the game with nearly 70 percent possession, the Red Bulls played a good defensive game and kept the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 at bay.
On the other hand, the Red Bulls missed Luke Rodgers’ services in the final third and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918 on the front line.
The teenage sensation, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Juan-Agudelo-c19644, was given the nod off the bench to take Teemu Tainio’s spot in the attacking midfield. To him the draw was something the MLS side had not expected. “To be honest, I don’t think any of us expected this,” Agudelo said.
“We came through with the tie here and did well to keep a 1-0 lead in the first game.”
The player was excited with his first appearance on English soil. “This is where it’s at,” Agudelo said. “The crowd was unbelievable and I don’t want to leave here!”
When asked if the youngster would like to feature in the European football, he answered rather diplomatically. “I would love to one day. But we will see,” the US international said. “This win gives us a lot of confidence.”
The player then turned his attention to the league and pressed on taking the win as a confidence boost into the MLS action. The team resides at third position in the Eastern Conference with two losses and two ties in the last five outings.
