Frank Schleck confirms his Tour de France doping
It has now been confirmed that Frank Schleck used the UCI banned substance Xipamide to enhance his performance during the Tour de France 2012.
The cyclist is marking his eighth Tour de France appearance and has already abandoned the race after the Team General Manager pulled him out of the race after the positive sample A.
Frank has now confirmed himself that the substance has been found in his B-Sample and UCI has instructed the Luxembourg Cycling Federation to take necessary actions against the older Schleck.
"The result of the counter test was positive but for me nothing changes: I just know that I did nothing wrong," he said in a press release. "I will therefore continue my search to find out how the substance could have entered my body".
“At the moment we are analyzing minute by minute what exactly I have been doing, eating, drinking on the days before the control and on the 14th of July itself, whom I met. What materials I came in contact with, what nutritional supplements I took...”
The 32-year-old started his professional pursuit with Team CSC in 2003 and stayed with the team by the end of 2010 season.
He helped the team with a number of victories in the earlier part of his career which include two five place finishes at the Tour de France (2008 and 2009) and the Vuelta a Espana 2010.
Schleck is having a dry season and has not opened his winning account in the first half of the season.
He replaced Jakob Fuglsang at the first Grand Tour race of the season, the Giro d’Italia but had to abandon the race after a disastrous crash in the last week.
Frank finished third during the stage 7 of the Giro d’Italia and occupied the third overall position during the Tour de Luxembourg 2012.
He rode brilliantly during the Tour de Suisse but had to settle for the second overall position as Rui Costa of Team Movistar claimed the top position.
Schleck denied all the doping allegations and cited that the substance must have been given to him by someone or might have been an accidental contamination.
