Frank Schleck is keen to ride the Tour de France 2012
Frank Schleck continued his pursuit at the 2012 season. He is currently riding the Tour of Andalucia and finished 59th during the 6 kilometre opening stage of the race.
The Luxembourg cyclist is only riding the Spanish race to fine-tune his form before some of the major goals of his 2012 season.
“My form is okay. I had a long break at the end of last season but I’m feeling good. I’ll see how I go at Andalucia,” he briefed.
Schleck finished third during the Tour de France 2011, along with his brother Andy at the podium.
Australian cyclist Cadel Evans claimed the top spot during the most recent version of the French Grand Tour.
The 31-year-old will ride the Paris-Nice scheduled in March 2012. He has also shown interest to ride the Pais Basque, Criterium International and then the Classics before finally targeting the Grand Tours.
The cyclist is not sure whether he will participate in the Tour this year or not as it is believed that Frank will ride the Italian Grand Tour scheduled in May this year.
Team RadioShack and Team Leopard Trek’s merger resulted in one of the strongest sides for the new season.
Only the top cyclists from both the teams were given the contracts for the new side and the Luxembourg based team has already started its new year campaign with a terrific start.
The team has secured the overall classifications at the Tour of Oman and the Tour of Qatar in the young season.
Frank stated, “The team has been really good. We had the whole team training together. I can’t talk for all the riders but everyone appeared to gel really well. You can see from the few races we’ve done that we’ve raced well as a team”.
Schleck holds a total number of nine Grand Tour appearances under his belt including one Giro, two Vuelta and as many as six Tour participations.
Johan Bruyneel briefed during the team’s presentation that sending Frank at the Giro d’ Italia 2012 can be a good option, which clearly means that Andy Schleck will be the only leader for the team in France.
Only time will tell if Frank represents the team at the Giro and also gets a chance to ride the Tour de France 2012 along with his brother or not.
