Frank Vogel predicts Brian Shaw won’t return to Indiana Pacers next season – NBA News
Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel has said that his assistant coach Brian Shaw is unlikely to return to the Pacers next season.
That is not due to a lack of performance on the part of Shaw, or the team management not being happy with him. It is rather the opposite, as Vogel believes that Shaw will soon land a job as a head coach for one of the 30 NBA teams.
“I’d be shocked if he does come back. I’m actually shocked that he’s not a head coach already. He’s got it all. He’s going to be one of the top five head coaches in the NBA for the next 10 years when he finally gets his shot, and
there’s not a doubt in my mind that’s going to happen” said Vogel while talking to the Indianapolis Star.
Shaw was the chief assistant coach to Frank Vogel this season and helped him in lifting the team to the third seed in the Eastern Conference and a 2nd round  playoffs trip.
The Pacers success story over the past year has been talked about and praised, with Shaw being an important part of the team that brought about the success.
Shaw was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers team that won three NBA championships, during his playing days. He was then the assistant coach to Phil Jackson at the Lakers for six years, which saw his team winning two NBA championships.
After Phil Jackson retired from his coaching job with the Lakers, Shaw was the favourite to get the position, but the Lakers management decided to go for Mike Brown.
Shaw has been interviewing with teams this year for a possible head coaching position. He recently interviewed with Michael Jordan, owner of the Charlotte Bobcats for the position. He has developed a great reputation for himself
after successful stints with the Lakers and now the Pacers.
Shaw seems to be ready to take a head coaching position, and with so many coaching positions empty in the NBA at the moment, it is quite likely that Vogel’s prediction does come true.
