Although Ricky Hatton seems quite excited about making a return to boxing, his former mates are against it. Among all, promoter Frank Warren has been the one trying to warn Hatton against it. According to Warren, the former WBA (Super), IBF &
The Ring Light Welterweight Champion and WBA Welterweight Champion must not get in the ring once again, as he has nothing left to offer.
“I'd prefer Ricky not to box. He's not going to get any better at the age of 33, but it's his decision,” said Warren, considering the fact that Hatton will soon turn 34.
“He's returned to the gym and that has given him focus and direction, but I'd rather he stay there training and not fight. I hope he's still got it, but it won't be there … it just doesn't happen like that.
“He's had a lot of problems outside the ring for a long, long time and it just won't happen. I believe he's had a good career and he should reflect on that.”
According to Warren, Hatton left a legacy and he is considered a legend in the ring. It is true that Hatton defeated the best and was only defeated by two exceptional fighters, namely Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. In other words, Hatton leads
47-fight career, out of which he lost 2 and won 45.
Hatton retired three years ago when he suffered a brutal knockout at the hands of Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao.
Now, the Briton fighter wants to get back in the ring to continue with his win streak, but Warren believes it might not work out the way Hatton thinks it would. Warren has warned Hatton against stepping back in the show and has also advised others not to
encourage him.
It should be noted here that Hatton went through a tough time when he retired from the sport. He was leading a sky-high career just when Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao shattered his dreams of becoming the boxing best. Hatton believes he still can the
number one fighter in the ring if he gets at it, and probably that is the reason why he is giving it a shot.
