Frank Warren lashes out on Jose Sulaiman and the WBC – Boxing News
Dereck Chisora’s promoter Frank Warren lashed out on the WBC and its president Jose Sulaiman for carrying out an incomplete hearing before suspending Dereck Chisora for an indefinite period along with demanding him to seek anger management treatment.
Frank Warren even went ahead to call the decision and WBC’s attitude towards Chisora ‘outrageous’. He said the organisation failed to carry on a complete disciplinary process before imposing such harsh punishments on Chisora. Warren supported Chisora’s previous
statement from his apology letter, which said ‘a lot happened behind the scenes’. Warren iterated, “There are a lot of things that happened behind the scenes that need to be taken into account. For the WBC to do this is outrageous. What happened outside the
ring I'm not condoning, but you cannot do this to anybody without letting them have a hearing. Dereck Chisora got beaten, he wasn't a champion, therefore it's easy for them to do this. How can you not allow anybody a fair hearing? Everybody's entitled to a
fair hearing, whatever you think of them, whatever you've seen.”
He further said that the procedure should have taken place prior to deciding the punishment, which did not happen. According to him, the WBC passed on a pre-decided punishment.
The indefinite time period ban on Chisora came in earlier this week by the WBC. The WBC also called his behaviour ‘one of the worst behaviours ever by a professional boxer’. The WBC further said that it would not let any individual spoil the image of the
sport which is already in jeopardy due to Chisora’s actions. Chisora had slapped Vitali Klitschko a night before they both were scheduled to fight in a pre-bout face-off photography session. Dereck then spat water in the face for Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali’s
elder brother, after the fight in the ring. Lastly, he got involved in a barehanded brawl with David Haye at the post-bout press conference after fight.
For all of what he did, Chisora has been banned for an indefinite period by the WBC along with a fine and recommendation of attending anger management classes.
