Frank Williams: Rubens Barrichello superb driver but nothing certain about 2012 contract – Formula 1
Williams’ Formula 1 team owner Frank Williams is still unsure whether Rubens Barrichello will be included in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Although Frank praised Barrichello and his driving style, the Englishman clearly stated that the decision on who are going to be team’s drivers for the 2012 season will be taken soon.
Frank also added that Williams’ car for the 2011 season is not as competitive as it should have been. He added that Barrichello would have been in the front running drivers given that the Williams car was competitive.
Frank stated, “I think if we had given him a better car he would have been very close to the front (this year), if not at the front. He is a superb driver.”
He further added, “I can't say anything about our drivers until we have made up our own minds. Rubens is very highly regarded and is truly a treasure trove of information and experience and that's something that will not be thrown away lightly.”
Barrichello previously stated that he is looking for a Formula 1 seat for the 2012 season to complete a personal milestone, as he will be 40 by next year and would have competed in his 20th Formula 1 season.
However, Barrichello himself added that if Williams do not want him in the team, he will certainly be looking for some other team to get a seat.
Williams’ performance in the 2011 season has been below par and Barrichello stated at the start of the season that Williams must improve their performance if he is to stay at the team.
However, since Williams are promising some improvement for the 2012 season as they will be shifting from Cosworth to Renault engines next year, Barrichello is not sure about his seat in the Grove-based team.
Nevertheless, both Barrichello and Williams’ are uncertain and will most likely sort out their issues at the end of the 2011 season.
