The Dutch trainer admits that the financial difference is effecting the Amsterdammers’ ability to compete successfully against European big guns.
Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has asserted that his side has become a feeder team to elite European clubs. He also insisted that the financial difference is effecting the Amsterdammers’ ability to compete successfully against the top clubs in
Europe.
Historically, the Amsterdam giants are one of the most successful clubs in Europe. However, they have failed to lift silverware in Europe since their UEFA Champions League triumph in 1995, when they defeated AC Milan 1-0 in the final.
When the Amsterdammers head coach was questioned whether his side can achieve European glory again in the seasons to come, he stated that it has become difficult to compete against the elite European clubs.
“I think that will be very difficult to achieve. The financial difference with the big clubs from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 has become so big that we can no longer compete with these teams. Ajax have become an academy for those clubs. What we see
these days is that players leave Ajax in their early twenties for a bigger salary elsewhere”, De Boer was quoted as saying to Goal.com.
For the past decade, the Amsterdammers have failed to hold on to their star players, and have become a feeder club for the elite European outfits.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nigel-de-Jong-c27882 all made their moves abroad after establishing themselves in the Dutch top tier.
The Dutch trainer admitted the fact and insisted that Ajax must hold on to their starlets if they are to achieve European glory in the future.
“Yes, and we do realise that. If we have a bit of luck and have six or seven great youngsters coming through plus perhaps two experienced players, we could do something in Europe”, De Boer concluded.
Ajax had a good opportunity to progress through to the knock-out stages of the Champions League this term, as they needed a point from the last group stage game to secure their place in the last-32.
However, they crippled 3-0 against Real Madrid. Coupled with Olympique Lyonnais’ 7-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb, it forced them to continue their European voyage in Europa League.
