Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has urged his troops to aim for all three points in their upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against Borussia Dortmund. The two sides will meet at Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday, November 21.
The Amsterdammers are currently sitting third in the Group D, four points behind the toppers, Die Borussen, and the 42-year-old tactician has admitted that his side’s failure to bag all three points will dent their chances of progressing through to the
next phase of the competition.
“We don't want to aim for a draw because we want to stay in the Champions League. Maybe we will be satisfied with a point if there are ten minutes left and we are drawing, but not before the match”, De Boer was quoted as saying to journalists in the pre-match
press conference.
The Dutchman went on to heap praise on the German champions, while admitting that Die Borussen will certainly give his side a stern test at home on Wednesday.
“Dortmund are a very good team, with fantastic players. They move a lot in their front line, so that's hard to defend. If we play our own style, I think we can create chances. But it's going to be tough, that's for sure”, De Boer added.
The Dutch trainer has also warned his side about the potential threat of the Borussians star striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-Lewandowski-c31255.
The Polish international has thus far netted seven goals while setting up three more in 11 league games. In addition, the 24-year-old has found the back of the net on two occasions in four Champions League appearances as well for the Bundesliga outfit.
“Lewandowski is a very good striker. He is technical, physically strong and has a great header”, De Boer concluded.
Ajax have failed to make progression to the knockout stages of the Europe’s most prestigious competition for quite some time now, and the Amsterdammers boss would be keen to achieve this feat in this year’s edition.
