The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player admits that he learnt a lot while working with the 60-year-old tactician during 2010 World Cup, and insists that the former Borussia Dortmund boss’ departure is unfortunate for the Oranje.
Frank de Boer has claimed that Bert van Marwijk’s decision to step down from his managerial post as the Netherlands head coach is extremely unfortunate for the Oranje.
The 60-year-old tactician, who led the Flying Dutchmen all the way to the final of 2010 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757, had a chaotic Euro 2012 campaign. His troops entered the competition as one of the favourites to emerge victorious
in Poland and Ukraine.
However, they were eliminated from the group stages after suffering three successive defeats to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984.
Following their disastrous and disappointing exit at European Championship, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam player faced severe criticism, which eventually led to his resignation.
Van Marwijk’s former assistant, De Boer, was extremely disappointed with the vastly experienced tactician's departure, while admitting that he learnt a lot from his coaching expertise.
“It is unfortunate for the Dutch team that Bert has quit. I had a great time with him and learned a lot from him”, the Ajax Amsterdam boss stated on his Twitter account.
Many believe that the Dutch mentor’s absence at Euro 2012 was one of the reasons behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753’ failure. However, the 42-year-old tactician, who was with the Oranje as an assistant manager during the 2010 World Cup, insisted
that the players’ behaviour in South Africa was totally different than in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032.
“I had my share during the successful World Cup, but it is not all about me. In 2010 it was all easier, when [Rafael] Van der Vaart and [Klaas-Jan] Huntelaar played in their little clubs. Now you have influential players in the
Premier League and the Bundesliga. That makes it all a lot harder”, De Boer stated in a press-conference at Amsterdam Arena.
Meanwhile, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Dutch Football Association (KNVB) are looking for a successor, and the Dutch FA director, Bert van Oostveen, has confirmed that it will be a Dutch coach.
“It would be a travesty for the image of our national football”, Van Oostveen was quoted as saying to AD.
