Frank de Boer: Lyon are amongst the strongest teams in France – UEFA Champions League news
Ajax Amsterdam will begin their UEFA Champions League journey against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 at Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday, September 14. De Joden head coach Frank de Boer believes that Les Gones are one of the strongest teams playing in the French Ligue 1.
The Eredivisie giants have commenced their 2011/12 campaign impressively, and the Dutch trainer wants his side to impress in Europe’s most prestigious club competition as well.
Although French outfits are underrated in Netherlands when compared to other top European sides, the Amsterdammers coach still thinks highly of Ligue 1.
“The French league is a bit underrated in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, so I am curious to see how big the difference between Lyon and Ajax is”, De
Boer was quoted as saying to the media.
Ajax have been drawn in the Group D with Real Madrid, Dinamo Zagreb and the French giants. The Dutch giants were pitted with Los Blancos last season as well.
The Dutch trainer revealed that to play in Europe’s primary club competition is a dream for every player.
“Playing in the Uefa Champions League is the most beautiful thing there is for a player; that is what you come to Ajax for. That is what you try to get across to the players. If you want recognition at international level, and most players do, then this
is the best stage to act on”, De Boer concluded.
The tactician would be hoping that his side manages to bag all three points in this fixture in front of their home crowd. With Los Blancos the favourites to top the group, the Amsterdam giants and Lyon will certainly be the two sides to battle for the runners-up
spot in this group.
