Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, believes that Kolbeinn Sigthorsson will play an integral role in Eredivisie title race after his return.
An ankle injury has kept the Icelandic International, who arrived at Amsterdam Arena in the summer of 2011 from AZ Alkmaar, sidelined since October 2011. However, reports from the Amsterdammers medical staff indicate that the 22-year-old will return to action
in the coming weeks.
The Ajax boss has insisted that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 striker is yet to show his skills at Amsterdam Arena, as he never gave his hundred per cent following his arrival.
“Kolbeinn has only given seventy per cent of his game. Since his arrival, he has never been fit. Ajax need a striker of his class. He is an all-rounder, a complete striker, who can dominate all facets of the game. I believe he will play an important role
in the title race at his return in the final weeks”, De Boer was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The 22-year-old represented the Alkmaar outfit in 32 matches and scored 15 goals during his one-season stay at AFAS Stadion.
He played eight games and netted five goals before the ankle injury struck in October 2011, forcing him to miss the remaining action of the 2011/12 campaign.
De Boer has admitted that his side knew that the young striker was struggling with groin problems before arriving in Amsterdam.
“Expectations were high though we knew before his departure from AZ that he had some groin problems. Unfortunately, it was his ankle injury that reduced his involvement in the 2011/12 season”, the Dutch mentor concluded.
