Frank de Boer: We played better with 10 men than with 11 – Dutch Eredivisie news
Ajax Amsterdam manager Frank de Boer revealed that his side played better with a man less on the field. The Amsterdammers conceded their first loss of the 2011/12 season, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Groningen-c39119 cruised to a hard fought 1-0 win at Euroborg Stadion on October 2.
The Dutch mentor revealed that his side played more aggressive football after Gregory van der Wiel received his marching orders following a second bookable offence.
“We did better with 10 men than with 11 men. That's something to think about. I was surprised that we were playing more aggressively with 10 men, when we played with abandon. It was as if something had to happen first on the field and only then, we would
respond. That must change”, De Boer was quoted as saying to the media.
Van der Wiel received his first yellow card in the opening half when he fouled Dusan Tadic, and the referee gave him his marching orders in the 61st minute for a handball in the area, a second bookable offence.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leandro-Bacuna-c21807 coolly slotted the resultant spot-kick into the bottom left corner of the net, giving his side a 1-0 lead. After conceding the goal, the Amsterdam giants staged an exciting brand of football and played aggressively. However, the home side’s
defence did well to defend their slim lead until the end of the match to secure all three points.
De Boer admitted that his troops performed nervously in the opening 45 minutes, which eventually led to his side’s first defeat of this season.
“You know when you are come to Groningen you will be met with a lot of enthusiasm from the players and the fans. We had trouble at first. In the first half we were too timid. I think we should show more initiative, be aggressive”, the Dutch trainer concluded.
The reigning Eredivisie champions will take on the league leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar, in their upcoming league encounter at Amsterdam Arena on October 15. The Dutch mentor would be hoping that his troops stage an impressive show and bag all three points.
