The Amsterdammers head coach expressed his delight over the 3-1 win against De Graafschap and insisted that his side played better as a unit in the second-half despite failing to score any goal.
Ajax Amsterdam boss, Frank de Boer, was extremely pleased with his side’s 3-1 win over the relegation threatened Richard Roelofsen’s side, De Graafschap. The match took place in front of a capacity crowd at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, April 15.
Despite the Amsterdam giants scoring all three goals in the opening half, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player has insisted that they played better as a unit after the break.
“I was tensed in the opening half. However, it was all too easy in the second-half and I am satisfied with their performance. Although we failed to score any goal, all the players controlled the game brilliantly and did not give away anything”, De Boer was
quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The Dutch trainer went on to admit that his side could have scored more goals, but they ran too much with the ball and failed to create decent opportunities.
“After the goal in the third minute, everyone thought that we may score something like ten goals. But, partly through our own play, we remained far from that. We lost possession too much and ran with the ball too much. It was a shame for the crowd that we
didn’t score more”, De Boer concluded.
The win marked Ajax’s tenth in a row, ensuring that the Amsterdammers move six points clear at the summit of the Eredivisie table.
Second placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam are six points behind the table-toppers, a feat that nobody would have dared to dream about earlier this year, when they were trailing the leaders by 13 points.
With four games left to play in the 2011/12 season, also considering that the Amsterdam giants have a goal difference far superior to their competitors, it seems likely that they would be able to retain the Eredivisie title.
De Boer would be hoping that his side keep their good run of form intact until the end of the season to lift their 31st Dutch title.
