Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, was all praise for his side after seeing them being crowned Dutch champions for the 31st time in the club’s history.
The Eredivisie title was almost secured following the Amsterdammers 2-1 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915 to retain the title.
Ajax clinched the title in style with a 2-0 win at Amsterdam Arena, and De Boer has expressed his delight following his side’s triumph.
“It was on Sunday, after the win against Twente, that we had all the natural euphoria. But I am satisfied with how we dealt with it”, De Boer was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
The Dutch mentor was extremely proud with all of his players, who stuck together and performed impressively despite numerous off-field rows at board level.
“This for me is a triumph for the squad. The sense is that the boys have desperately needed each other and have pulled together when it was needed”, De Boer added.
The 41-year-old, who has now led the Amsterdam giants to two successive Eredivisie titles since taking over the managerial hot seat in December 2010 from Martin Jol, is now a victim of his own success.
Several of the Amsterdammers’ key players including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Siem-de-Jong-c33482 are likely to move abroad with a host of top European clubs taking keen interest in acquiring their signatures this summer.
The former Barcelona player has admitted that they must somehow keep all the players together if they are to compete successfully in UEFA Champions League next term.
“If we can keep the group together.... With age comes experience. You need that in a team, especially in the Champions League. If Van der Wiel and Vertonghen leave then that will be a big chunk taken out of the squad”, De Boer concluded.
