Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has expressed hopefulness ahead of his side’s upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against La Liga champions, Real Madrid. The two sides will meet at Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday, October 3.
The 42-year-old tactician has admitted that Los Blancos are a far superior side than the Amsterdammers, but has stressed that anything is possible if his troops play their own game.
“There's a big chance Real Madrid will win, because they've got more quality and experience, but if we play our own game, you never know. It is all about believing in yourself. Against Real Madrid last year, and Manchester United, we've shown that we are able to keep up”, De Boer was quoted as saying to journalists at a press conference.
The Dutch trainer went on to urge his troops to remain careful with the ball throughout the 90 minutes if they are to claim a good result against Jose Mourinho’s men, while warning his side about Los Blancos’ lethal counter attacking threat.
“We must be very careful with the ball when we have possession. We did well last weekend against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233, as they were waiting for us to lose the ball. But Real Madrid are so effective on the counter. That was very clear last year at the Bernabeu when they beat us 3-0”, De Boer concluded.
De Joden are heading into the upcoming Champions League tie against Real Madrid on the back of a morale boosting 1-0 win over FC Twente Enschede at home on September 29. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Eriksen-c9074 netted the only goal of the game in the second-half.
De Boer would be hoping that his side could achieve an upset victory against the Madrid giants on Wednesday to keep their hopes of progressing through to the next phase of the Europe’s most prestigious club competition alive.
The Amsterdammers suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund in their opening game of UEFA Champions League.
