The Ajax boss was disappointed with his side’s 1-0 loss at the hands of the German Bundesliga winners in their UEFA Champions League opener, and insisted that his side lacked incisiveness in front of the goal.
Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, was disappointed with his side’s 1-0 defeat in their first game of the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday, September 18.

“We had most of the possession. Of course they were dangerous at certain times, but so were we. We had the chances to score one, two or even three goals. I said before the match that we had to play according to our style and that
is what we did. Therefore, it is especially disappointing that we threw it away three minutes from time”, De Boer was quoted as saying to the media in the post-match press-conference.
Both sides started the match cautiously, and failed to break the deadlock in the opening half, which saw goalscoring opportunities few and far between.
After the break, the hosts had a perfect opportunity to grab the lead, when the referee awarded them a spot-kick following http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenneth-Vermeer-c20618,
kept out Mats Hummels’ tame effort from the spot to keep the deadlock intact.

De Boer was all praise for his side’s performance, but stressed that the result would have been different should his troops have taken any of their chances.
“We can be proud of the way we played, but we failed to take the lead. If you can blame us for something, it's that we were not cold-blooded enough to take the chances we got”, the 42-year-old concluded.
Ajax will play their next Champions League game against Real Madrid at Amsterdam Arena on October 3.
