Frank de Boer: strange that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998 is still with us – Dutch Eredivisie news
Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper, Maarten Stekelenburg, has remained heavily linked with a move away from Amsterdam Arena since the start of the ongoing summer transfer market. With the likes of Juventus FC, Arsenal FC, Atletico Madrid and AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 taking keen interest
in signing the gloves man, it seems evident that the highly-rated goalkeeper would be pursuing his career elsewhere in the upcoming season.
However, recent reports in Amsterdam have confirmed that none of the aforementioned clubs, but Roma, have made any contact with the club or the player. Frank de Boer, the Amsterdammers manager, has revealed that he is surprised with the fact that none of
the bigger European clubs have made efforts to sign the Dutch International.
“If you look at his qualities, it is strange that he has not yet been bought by a European club. It is strange that he is still with us. I know that Roma are the only team currently linked with Maarten and I know the ambitions of Maarten to move to a foreign
club”, De Boer said while talking to the media.
The Dutch International is a product of Ajax’s renowned youth academy and started his professional career in the 2002/03 season at Amsterdam Arena. Since then, the 28-year-old has remained with the Amsterdammers, staying the number one shot-stopper in Amsterdam
for the last five seasons.
The highly-rated goalkeeper’s current contract runs until the summer of 2012 and Stekelenburg has reportedly set his sights on a move away from his parent club before the 2011/12 season commences.
De Boer also confirmed that the gloves man wants to take the next step by making a move abroad.
“He has one year and it's no secret that he wants to take the next step. If Roma are reported - and that's a big club in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 - I can imagine that he then wants to talk”, the Dutch trainer concluded.
Reports suggest that an offer in the region of 10 million Euros would be enough to lure the gloves man away from his parent club.
