The Ajax Amsterdam boss has expressed his disappointment on the Icelandic ace’s injury, and has revealed that the young striker was extremely determined to show his class this season.
Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has expressed his disappointment after hearing about the injury of Kolbeinn Sigthorsson. The Icelandic international has a dislocated shoulder, and will go under the knife to recover completely.
The Dutch trainer, who took over the managerial hot seat at Amsterdam Arena half-way through the 2010/11 season from Martin Jol, has revealed that the 22-year-old was determined to prove his worth in the ongoing season.
“This was his year. Kolbeinn was very eager to show what he can do. We also had great expectations from him. We were hoping that he will be able to make useful contributions in half of our season’s games”, De Boer was quoted as
saying to Nusport.nl.
The promising young striker arrived at Amsterdam Arena at the start of the 2011/12 campaign after making 32 appearances for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar. However, the Icelandic ace had to sit out most part of the season on the sidelines due to a
fractured ankle.
The 22-year-old, who has thus far made only 15 appearances while donning the jersey of Ajax, is expected to be out from action at least until the winter break.
However, the Dutch trainer has not expressed any kind of nervousness at the injury of his side’s first choice striker.

“We have to play against RKC, Borussia Dortmund and ADO this week, and we have already decided that we cannot force De Jong playing all three games for full 90 minutes”, De Boer concluded.
