Frankel becomes third most expensive stallion
Some people say that the value of a horse ends with his racing career. This is not true in the case of Frankel who, after hanging his boots, has become world’s third more expensive stallion by signing a three-year pact with Juddmonte for £30 million.
The K. Abdulla owned bay colt, who called it a day on October 20 after winning the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot, bid goodbye to his trainer Sir Henry Cecil’s Warren Place stable and joined Banstead Manor Stud a few days ago.
Juddmonte has given a warm welcome to the legendary bay colt. While speaking to the media, the stud’s General Manager, Philip Mitchell, told, “The fee for Frankel reflects his merits as being perhaps the greatest racehorse we have ever witnessed.
“He is by Galileo, who is now recognised as the best sire in the world, and out of Kind, a winner of six races (from five to seven furlongs) and herself a daughter of one of the most influential stallions in the history of thoroughbred breeding, Danehill."
Currently, Galileo poses to be the highly paid stallion followed by Fastnet Rock. Frankel is honoured to have joined the top-three ranks.
Frankel put a full stop before his promising career after setting a marvellous success streak of 14 triumphs. Some people even opine that the colt is born to win only.
The ex-runner started his career in August 2010. From beginning to the last race, he remained hot favourite every time.
During his on-field period, Frankel bagged some glorious titles that include Royal Lodge Stakes, Dewhurst Stakes, Greenham Stakes, 2,000 Guineas Stakes, St. James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Lockinge Stakes, Queen Anne Stakes,
International Stakes and Champion Stakes.
According to an estimate, Frankel’s offspring will come in playfields till 2016, however, the three-year contract will be renewed in 2015.
Apart from all these factors, there are some sport analysts who still raise questions on Frankel’s early retirement. They opine that the colt should have run more races as he was at the top of his game. Hopefully, Frankel will produce some brilliant progenies
for the sport.
