Frankel in a league of his own as BHA raises his ratings after a victory in the JLT Lockinge Stakes
After a smashing victory in the JLT Lockinge Stakes, Frankel remains undefeated in 10 starts, who landed his tenth victory at Newbury on 19th May, 2012.
The son of Galileo, out of mare Kind, was paired with rider Tom Queally, who has mounted the four-year-old since his career began, finishing 5 lengths ahead of Excelebration, who was beaten twice by Frankel last season.
As a result of the victory, British Horseracing Authority’s handicapper raise Frankel by 2lb, which gives him an official rating of 138.
Dominic Gardiner-Hill, the handicapper told the press that:
"I do think he can go higher. I watched the Lockinge again today and, to be honest, he did it very easily. To go higher he is going to have to beat something other than Excelebration, whether it is going to be a horse like Cirrus Des Aigles, we will
have to wait and see. I do suspect he can be a 140-horse, it just depends if he gets the opportunity."
Frankel, who is owned by Khalid Abdullah, is showing remarkable improvement with every race, and at this point it seems that he will keep building on what he has achieved so far.
Dancing Brave, owned the Khalid Abdullah was 141 in 1986 and it seems that he is the only one above Frankel, but if the 4-year-old colt can beat a higher rated horse than Excelebration, than he can definitely be in the 140’s.
Frankel’s rating has given him some leverage, and he is now ahead of, Peintre Celebre, and Generous, both of them are 137 and Sea On The Stars who has a rating of 136.
Dominic Gardiner-Hill added that:
"I'm happy with the rating. My first reaction to the Lockinge was one of relief, as Frankel had confirmed what he had shown last season.”
With this rating, Frankel is now rated higher than Black Caviar, the six-year-old mare who is under the training of Peter Moody.
The daughter of Bel Esprit, out of mare Helsinge, has bagged all of her 21 starts and will be competing in the Royal Ascot.
A race between these two runners is highly anticipated as fans, enthusiasts and connections are anxious to see which undefeated runner remains undefeated
