Frankel once again follows the set precedent by winning the Juddmonte International Stakes
Galileo’s colt once again proved that there is simply no better racing thoroughbred than the racing icon that he is himself. Racing over ten furlongs for the first time in the career, Frankel won the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions Series) on 22nd August, 2012 at York.
"It's fantastic and it's great for Yorkshire, they're very supportive of racing and deserve to see him. [It helped me feel] 20 years better," the trainer said."
“Every man and his dog had his penny's worth as to where he should run and what he should do, but to run him in the owner's race and to go and win 13 from 13 speaks for itself”.
The jockey stated: “I suspected they would go a good gallop, but we had a plan in place. Eddie Ahern did a good job on Bullet Train and it panned out nicely,".
For a straight second time he set the Saeed Bin Suroor trained, Farhh, as the runner-up defeating him by a good seven lengths this time.
His thirteen out of thirteen races have got the crowds, audience and the connections wondering if he is the best to race since the last twenty years or if he is the best ever. His thirteenth brilliant performance was witnessed by 30,000 spectators which is almost a 50% surge in attendance to what was experienced in the 2011 version of the race.
It is almost as if no distance is long enough to break the sweat of the racing sensation leave alone tiring him out or forcing him to put in any effort. There has hardly ever been an instance where the jockey, Tom Queally, had to get worried about getting to the wire or undermining the competition.
Frankel’s form and race record is now being compared to that of Brigadier Gerard who faced his first loss of the career forty years back. It was for the first time through his eighteen races that he finally lost one.
It is the same race that is highly likely to the last and the final stop for the four-year-old bay colt, the Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.
Initially his entry in the Arc was doubtful but ever since the magnificent excellence in the Juddmonte has surfaced it has made the connections seriously consider the option. The last verdict remains with the owner, Khalid Abdulla.
