Frankel ready for Qipco Sussex Stakes at Goodwood
Sir Henry Cecil’s 4-year-old champion colt, Frankel, is all set to stretch his unbeaten run to 12 starts, as he gears up for the Qipco Sussex Stakes, to be held at Goodwood on August 1st.
The dashing runner has won seven Group 1 events so far, and will aim for his eighth success at the highest level next month.
The K. Abdulla owned was last seen in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes (British Champions Series) at Royal Ascot last month. It was a comfortable triumph for the maverick colt, as he stamped the opposition with ridiculous ease.
Excelebration’s misery against Frankel continued, as he failed to create any problem for the triumphant runner. Despite being prominent all the way through, it was almost impossible for the Aidan O’Brien’s trainee to match Frankel’s speed.
In the hands of rider Tom Queally, the 1 to 10 favourite demonstrated a splendid show right through the race and consequently, seized the top position by a staggering margin of 11 lengths.
He never looked in danger, as the rest of the pack was completely helpless in front of his speed and class. While Frankel conveniently grabbed the big prize worth £198,485.00, Excelebration was lucky to finish second by a neck’s margin.
After such a magnificent glory, the World number one is well prepared to perpetuate his good work at Goodwood, where another Group 1 glory awaits.
His connections have all the reasons to believe that Frankel will continue his good form to add another major victory to his tally.
After showing his class in the Qipco Sussex Stakes, Galileo’s son will move to York in a bid to win the Juddmonte International Stakes. Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdulla, stated that Frankel is in fabulous form and the entire team is happy with his progress.
"Frankel is in very good form. He came back from Ascot in great nick - bouncing, eating, kicking. I think Henry was really happy with him after Ascot and we want him to come out of a race like that,” Grimthorpe told Sky Sports News.
He continued: "As for the future, he's heading towards the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on August 1. Then, all being well, he'll go to York for the Juddmonte."
